I finally got to go boatin, I did a new engine, did not gain any speed, I am not too happy about that, I did however gain 4-500 rpm with the same prop as last year but no more speed, 48 GPS. I wish I had a BBC!!

Any advice is appreciated..

What were the changes to the engine? How much speed did you expect to gain?

I already had the dart sportsman heads, edelbrock performer intake and 650 holley,I added 1 point of compression (now 9.5:1) and a little more cam, and it is now a roller cam, got rid of the flat tappets, The cam went from a 112 lca 212/218 @.50 duration and .470/.490 lift to a roller ZZ9 GM cam, 112 lca, 218/222@.50 and .488/.518 lift.

I actually did not expect much I guess, just anything better, even 51 would have been nice, The heads are a little big but everyone said with the 9.5:1 I wouild be good enough, I had these heads because I got them for 500.00 new, they are 200 cc intake runners, I know it makes decent power since I am turning 500 more rpm then last year, I am looking into propping now too, I tried a 19P a 21P Labbed to a 20P and a stock mirage 21p
I read all the time people running 21P in a stock 260 23 nova or 23 scorpion and doo OK, my boat sucks with a 21P especially getting on plane!

If you gained 500 rpm with the same prop You must be going faster

See if you can get a 21p Rev 4 to try. The 4 blade might help getting on plane, while its small enough diameter and rake to not bog it like a Bravo 1 would.
They've worked good at work in place of Mirages on some of the smaller singles.

Thats what I would normally say, I can pull it up to 49 mph at 4600 and as soon as I trim a little more the gps drops off, I don't understand it!!

How do I measure diameter right?

Diameter.... Measure from prop shaft center to outer edge of blade then double. Thats the diameter. Sounds like you may have been over triming due to the calm sticky water.

I measured the 19P aluminum that was stock that way, it was like 6 7/8 to one side, does that sound right?

I thought I would slip if it was over trimmed...??

Your running aluminum?

No, I had the stock prop here from a long time ago, I noticed it was smaller in diameter then the 19 stainless and 21 mirage, would diameter play a big role? I still have a hard time planing with a 19 and I don't think i should..
