Less than is lost by the lack of a functioning trim.

yeah, you can tell those are in fact "female" trim solenoids:
They only work when they want to, or when they are being beaten with a screwdriver.

I'm afraid to find out what's under the bottom paint.
Mine was sanded*it would look like crap if I remove it. I wanted to remove it for the cosmetic factor but after trying to help Josh clean the formula a few weeks ago I will just leave it on!

anyone know how hard it would be to regel the bottom?
getting the old bottom paint off will be the easy part its the scuffing and scratches underneath that im worried about.

need to know the same as close as i can find 3 5 mph
I don't know how much speed you lose* but it's a real pita to remove. I did it on two boats. Never again! No matter how good a deal I think a boat is* if it's bottom painted* I'm looking elsewhere.

Ahhh the ole bottom paint myth. Leave it on. Like cuda says. I stripped the first 32 to put a barrier coat...YUK

Everything else being even* 1-4 mph depending on your top speed and what you use (VC-18/17 being the best) If you leave the unpainted boat in the water for a week or so* the painted bottom will be faster. I did a lot of research on this. The only reason I didnt paint the bottom of the formula is that it hurts the resale and I knew I would be selling that one.
Figure about $5K to re-gel the bottom on a 30 footer* at least. I just had the keel redone on the formula and it was 2K.

blue? ugly? I have no idea what the brand is. It was like that when I bought it. He always left it in the water and thought it was a good idea to put on...

Does the paint feel chalky when wet and some color on your hand if you wipe it? If so if just very cheap sloughing paint (most common). Are there a lot of layers of build up?

After a day of scraping and sanding on the old F 20, I rented a pressure washer with a sand blasting attachment and took most of it off in a couple hours. You must be careful around a conves curve, it's easy to blast through the gel, but I think it's easier to repair the gel than to fool with the bottom paint. My 242 also had bottom paint. I thought I'd be smart, took it to a guy that does bead blasting. He assured me he'd done a lot of Corvettes etc, and it wouldn't hurt the gel. Chit! Some place it looked like it was shot with number eight bird shot. D amn near ruined my hull.
Used 550 pounds of sand to do the 20. You can buy it at the same place you rent stuff. It's cheap.
In this picture, I'm sanding off the bp that I didn't get with the sandblaster. It flat out sucked!

I have commercial sandblasting gear, I just need to find a media that wont etch the gelcoat, perhaps walnut shells, or ground corn cobb would work.
