Monday marked 4 weeks down and now am in my 5th week. Huge urges are not so ofen but they do tend to catch me off guard.
Keeping to about 1 or less piece of nicorette a day.
Brother in law also stopped smoking so its a bit harder to bum a cig.
Had some very stressfull times but managed not to buy a pack.
Had Asian freind who smokes (known for about 17 years and ALWAYS smoke with him) also encouraging me to quit.
Little if any coughing at night.
I can smell a smoker a mile away and it does not smell good.
Just documenting my addiction.

Cool, congrats. It does get easier with time. Learn to recognise the sneak attack urges and revel in the power you have to overcome them. It becomes a rewarding experience. Whens your next trip overseas?

Sounds like you're doing well! I'm sure it's hard to overcome. I never wanted to try smoking because I never wanted to have to find out whether or not I could quit

Saw a kid smoking in the parking lot of best buy. Natually I said "I'm on week 5 w/o one"....followed by "I feel like a herion user looking at your cig"

I may slip tonight but it was planned from day one. Yes I'm posting while sober. Since I have made it this far I will give a farewell to smoking. If brother in-law is not smoking I probably will not.

Keep up the effort, Bob, it's gotta be tough.
MrsBomar is having DT's just trying to get through life with the new Ohio anti smoking law. She is smoking a lot less since that went through. Can't say it has helped her demeanor though.

Tell Mrs Bomar I had literal homosidal days. Not just mis-demeanor....we're talking felony type days.

took 3-4 drags from a cig. Got a head rush, felt a little queezy. Enough of that. I'm pretty sure I'm done.

Since it was 50° last night (and the rain quit about 8:30), people were outside smoking like steam locomotives.
MrsBomar must have smoked 2 packs, probably less than most there though.

Hang in there man....You woln't regret it. I quit about 15 yrs ago and I know what your going thru. Theres a breathing exercise my hypnoist [spell] said to do when an urge comes on or trying to get to sleep. You take deep breath and very slowly exhale thru tight lips so as to build pressure in lungs and concentrate on totally relaxing your body. Do several of these and your urge will be controllable. You need to really not do that 3 or 4 drag thing. I hope you make it.:cool1:

Yep I know the exercise. Actually taught by psycologists to relieve stress. They call it quiet relaxation. It does work.

How are you doing Baja??? It's what, week 6??
I quit Jan. 2. So far so good. I can't believe in just a week that the weezing and coughing have already subsided!! :cool1:
We joined the YMCA, been working out everyday, cutting out sugars, enriched flour (white bread, pasta, potatoes, etc) and eating a lot more fruits and vegetables, chicken, fish........
Like I posted last month, almost 45 and time to get into shape! '07 is the year.
Now I have to get my husband to quit smoking....baby steps.

GONGRATS!!! Great to hear your trying. IT"S HARD!!! don't think it's a minor thing.
Just remember ""Research suggests that nicotine is as addictive as heroin, cocaine...." from the CDC
Yes this starts week six and things are getting better. I'm pretty confident I'll make it. I only have the 4 drags from a cigarette that made me light headed and a little sick.
Just remember it is both a PHYSICAL and MENTAL addiction and is one of the most addictive drugs out there. Treat it seriously.
Remember:
1. Subtitution...give yourself something to do rather than smoke.
2. Support...let everyone know your trying and make banner days.
3. Education...learn what it is your fighting. You'd be surprised.
4. Triggers. Learn what is it that triggers your need for smoking.
Remember this is a BIG thing don't take it lightly
There's lots of info online. I was pretty resistant to take advise but it really helps!

Good for non smokers to read tooo!!!!

Local news this morning had an excert about nicotine water. Each 8oz bottle had the nicotine level of two cigarettes.......interesting.

Sounds like you are doing very well.
Last time I tried to quit I had major withdrawal symptoms.
I felt like a crack addict, couldn't think, sleep, work, or do any
minor things very well. It’s definitely a hard drug to quit.
Congrats & best wishes on your continued success!

I did slip last night and had one cig. I'm OK with that.

I haven't officially quit yet but I have only had about 10 smokes in a month and 5 of those were on the same day while hunting.
I haven't had one in 10 days now and I don't really care but every once in a while I want 1.
So long as I am not buying smokes and going through a pack a day I think I am doing well.

Let's face it I've met very few people who would rather keep smoking if given the ability to quit with no side effects. I'm a little bummed that I slipped last night but I kept it down to one.

I honestly had no idea you smoked that much. I don't think I've ever really seen you smoke often.

If my kids (and even Wendy) are around I try to hide. I think you end up talking to Wendy more than me soooooo:o
