After two years of wrenching/screaming I fiinally splashed the Cig toight, only had time for about an hour of running.
Good part is, with all the weight shed from using aluminum parts it actually sounds like a powerboat instead of the gurgling, sputtering, boat is drowning from tips being just under the waterline sound. The boat planes off right at 2k which was unheard of before. I ran it for about half an hour at idle in gear with half an hour of 2 to 3k RPM inbetween.
Some points to ponder: Running on the hose I had what I thought was reversion isssues in one motor. After pulling the SM full length risers off tonight it was clearly condesation and only showing on the top half of the elbow on one side and the top half of the elbow extending down the top half of the riser about half the overall length on the other side. The rest of both pipes and both manifolds were dry as a bone. On the SBC manifolds the supplied rubber jumper hoses seem to be a tad bit kinked at the bend. Could this be the culprit of over/ under pressure at the point of entry into the riser jacket?
Seccondly, The "drilled" 160 degree Hardin T stats never made above 140 degrees on either motor "verified by IR thermometer". Could this be becase of the holes drilled?
Last, The 212 degree Hardin oil T stats never made oil temp above 200 degrees "again verified by an IR gun" Oil temp dropped down to about 150 once back at idle in gear. Cold oil pressure at startup is roughly 60psi per side, after 15 min at 3k rpm it dropped to about 25psi at idle and rose to 135-140 after running back at idle for a minute or two.
Somewhere between the block adapter output and the oil T stat input leaks like a sieve on both motors at temp, I knew this before from running on the hose, most likely an AN to AN seal problem.

Dude, I seriously think that guy is dead.
I put in friday afternoon, pulled out at 11, he was there both times.
I put in saturday at 10 and pulled at 2am, he was there.
Sunday in at 11, out at 7, he was still there.
Oh yeah, holy thermostats will run cooler.

Congrats on the splash!!!
LOOKS GREAT!
Man, I miss my 28! I have pondered selling the Cafe and buying a 28 Pantera or Cig and also getting a cruiser, flybridge, express...(something with air).
Trust me, whatever you do - KEEP YOUR 28' CIG!. You will want another boat sometime - Just make sure your math does NOT include you selling your Cig!
Again, congrats on the splash!

It wont be going anywhere. We already have the next boat planned around keeping the 28. ;)

Wedding...not weedding. Opps.
Water temp sounds good , with the drilled holes it will not get much higher, however the oil will most likely rise when you run it hard and that could be a subject to ponder , I here conversations that oil should run anywhere between 150 to 250 , lots of ideas as to what is correct ! many opinon's ! I try to keep mine between 170-200 but with the small blocks running a higher RPM (if you are) then more temp will alow oil to get to the rocker arms a little easier ! run it like ya stole it , and dont worry about it breaking , It's gonna !!!

Now for the million dollar question. Why arent my oil thermostats bringing the oil up to 212 before opening to the coolers? There is only one way to plumb them and they are done exatly as the drawing shows. Is 140 degrees on the engine just too cold to get the oil up to 212 degrees at idle? Best I saw was 200 degrees after a 3k rpm run, temp dropped back down to 150 at idle WTF?!?

My oil temps have yet to go over 160-170 at the hardest running, usually runs right at 150 all day long, I have not had any issues at all with that, almost no condensation under valve cover besides early season when water was really cold. I think you will be fine, maybe you cooling system is getting great flow and cooling too good before it can warm up? even with the T-stats?

Great news, oil temps will rise with rpm, I like to run them above 220 once in a while to steam off any water from condensation. Church on Sunday?

Cooler isnt blocked completley by the thermostat when cold.

I dont think you will ever get them that high at idle, I had the thermostats too and they wouldnt do that either.

Tim, are you running synthetic oil? If so, be careful, you may not get any signs of milkshake, just water dropplets running around with the oil. Water wont mix with most synthetics. At least from my old knowledge.

No, I use Valvoline VR1 20-50 engines run at 130-140 tops and oill highest was 170 ish. no issues so far so I guess all is well!

Tim, Where are your oil senders measuring the temp? Before or after the coolers? I was told a good cooler will pull around 50deg from the oil.
Tony, As mentioned the oil t-stats probabally dont bypass all the oil, I know thats how the Merc stuff works. I think you need to do a longer run with more rpm. I'll bet the temps are going to fall right in line. I think I would rather have them run a little cooler then a little hotter..
My oil temps take a good 10 minutes to go to around 150/160deg, and will maintain oil temp while running, and go as high as 200deg when running hard. I'm measuring mine on the block right as the oil comes back from the cooler. Running all stock Merc HP500 stuff, Merc t-stat, with the exception of a 3" by 18" oil cooler and higher psi bypass valves.
Looks good.

Mine are after, right at the filter housing, when I replaced my coolers after all the engine issues, I used the bigger 8 blade ones, mine were 6 or 7 before..
