Bomar wasnt even there.. Was intercepted by a 25' CC with twin merc saltwater OB's hull read " Ottawa county sheriff" Five people on this boat.. Four with Grey polos on. and one decked out in full OD green BDU's with US Border patrol on them. He did the talking, the other 4 just stood there like they were clueless as to what happened.

Tell the story in more detail! It sould be a case study in the waste of 500,000,000 dollars to secure our border with Canada.
Outdriveman...may I assume that that quad SC Merc boat has broken down a time or two? LOL!!!

This may be a long one.....
A buddy met me up at the lake Sunday, We took the boat out for a spin Knowing there was a snowballs chance in hell to get a dock at PIB on a Holiday weekend we head to west bay inn.. They are all full with no hope of anyone leaving.. Both of us having us passports in hand, we say **** it and head towards Pelee to grab a dock at scudder (there is an awesome bar/grill at the marina with amazing food). Nice trip up, cruised around 40-ish got there with no problem. called into CanPass and got my little number. Had lunch and left to head home.. No boats out on the water up there.. watching my chartplotter and almost the instant i cross the international border this boat come out of nowhere headed directly for me. Pissed because i now have to slow down and change my heading i realize the boat has flashing blue lights on it... WTF.....
Boat was a Grey 25' ish CC with "Ottawa county Sheriff" decals on the side.. FIVE MEN were on this boat... Realizing a shootout was inevitable i stopped. The four guys in Grey Polos never said or did anything but deploy their fenders and stand there being worthless.. The US Border patrol guy was the one asking where i was coming from, if i planned to check in, Where i planned to check in at. If i had an I-94. I mentioned to him the chances of finding a place to tie up on PIB were slim to one to get to the video phone. He seems to not care... At this point Ive already shown him both our passports.... He follows us into PIB... ugh.... find a small slip on the end of A dock and tie up.. Refusing to pay for a dock I'm going to use for ten minutes. (i fully plan to lay into the dockmaster if he says one word to me).
Video phone is broken on PIB.... theres a piece of paper taped to the phone.. says call 888-523-BOAT to report back into the US... OK cool this should be easy... I call him and give all of my personal info, boat info and passengers info. After which he says "oh, you don't have Nexus do you?" I tell him i do not, otherwise i wouldn't be in this situation... he then tells me "Well you need to make your way to a video phone and check in that way" %#$@%#$@#@)(*)(#@!!!!!!!! I kindly tell him its down and there is a sign to call this number... He tells me to call this other number and there is a person on PIB doing face to face check ins... SO i call this new number and tell the guy i need to check back on PIB he says "oh.. I left for the day.. I'm back in Cleveland now, Let me take your info and i will call you back with instructions on what to do"
Now realizing all hope is lost i spend fifteen minutes waiting for this call.. During which I'm pretty sure i saw Scott and Marry pull in and dock. Latefia calls me back and tells me she is with the customs and border patrol and will take my info shortly...... SO i give all my info to this woman and finally gives me the OK to re enter the country (even though I'm already a us citizen) So now one and half hours late and off schedule i make it back into Catawba just before sunset.

You were correct on seeing us come in on Sunday early evening. Cedar Point has a video phone I know this is way out of the way but may work into a future trip.

So has anyone heard anything negative about the Nexus card? Does it help the situation we all hate when checking in? Does showing it to ICE or Homeland guys make them less aggressive?

They were far to the west side, there chart plotter was showing them in US water still. We always try to stay in the us water, there is usually less fish nets.

you dont have to check in if you dont touch land in canada... however if fishing their waters you will need a license.

girlfriends family owns north harbor island, it was an awsome spot for the 4th...
I remember getting harrassed by barney fife on the sheriff boat early this year. the cop whom i hate boarded me 11 times (once it was twice the same day) and i assume he was still pissed i told his boss some damage to the boat was his fault and stopped me every chance he got so i asked my atty how to handle it and was told to advise the cop that if he should have the expiration date to my flares memorized by now and his misuse of power was forcing me to consider a protection order against him... problem solved:Bunny1:

Scott-
The only real downside i can see to the Nexus card is the hassle of applying for it. Almost like getting a second passport.. In my experience it seems as if i had a nexus card i would have been on my way in no time and not received the intense questioning.

Just claim it. Make a website about it. Over time, people wont question you as being the owner.

I believe boating in canadian waters doesn't count... you actually have to physically touch land
