Living out here in podunk redneck haven sometimes is a real treat. From time to time you get some good laughs. Yesterday I was at a local Napa store, knowing the one parts guy keeps a Sundancer at Fox Haven I asked about is boat being ready. The conversation then turns to how rough the lake was on Saturday and how his bro who works for Marine Max had to deliver a boat via water on Saturday.
Some guy in the store chimes in with Lake Erie gets big waves, I was there once. I go on to mention that I know of two guys who were out on the lake, one in a 32 Baja and another in a 46 Cigarette. This other guy from behind the counter pipes up and says he shoulda had a Fountain. I ask why, He says and I quote: becase they make the best cigarette boats, I saw them on TV.:Boating98:

Hey buddy I need to tell you a real funny story that happened on Lake Norman about six years back. Do you remember the "Painter"? The guy that lived on the sail boat with his cats that was all painted up stipid colors with crap hanging all over it.
Let me know if you do and I'll tell you the story.

I remember hearing about that story. Worst part was the poor guy who got broadsided by the boat and then arrested for OMVI. Talk about bad luck.

Was that the 20 Outlaw?
Yes it was a 20 Outlaw
The guy that owned the boat and his friend worked for one of the N A S C A R teams. Both of them and a girl were out late on a Tuesday night at a party and had way too much to drink and were simply tired. Somewhere around 2AM if memory serves me right they were headed home. The guys passed out in the small cramped cuddy and the girl was driving. She was headed east down the main channel past the cove to the rudder heading straight for I-77. She fell asleep at the helm running around 50 MPH. Now there are three people passed out and a boat on plane at 2 in the morning running 50 MPH. They hit the causeway immediately north of exit #30 and completely cleared the guard rail when air bound and clipped the front of a car heading south toward Charlotte. The boat spun around and landed upside down in the median. A good friend was a volunteer firefighter at Shepards and he was one of the people that responded. They took a saw and cut right through the hull and pulled the people out. Two of the three were hurt very badly and the N A S C A R team did not approve and fired them both immediately due to bad press. The guy in the car was not hurt but totally in shock. Imagine driving down the interstate in the middle of the night minding your own business and out of no where a boat appears in flight right before you.
I have some pictures of the wreck taken my by buddy and I will find them and post them for you guys. I think they are on the computer out in the man cave. They are real nasty with a lot of blood but you can see how the boat landed and how they cut it open.

There was a guy that lived on a sail boat. He did not have a slip anywhere. He did have a VW that he kept at one of the ramps and would park the boat at a ramp and drive to the store as needed. He was all over the lake around 2003 and the boat was painted with every color under the rainbow by hand. It was really ugly but stood out. It did not have a sail. He powered it when he moved around. He had everything under the sun hanging on the mast like a display. He reminded you of a homeless person with all his stuff in a shopping cart except his was on this boat.
One afternoon he was floating in the main channel not far from the sandbar. I decided to stop and talk with him. We had the 36 at that time and I idled up about 30 feet from him and killed the engine and said hello. He spoke ack and was friendly and asked if our boat was a "FOUNTAIN". I said actually it is a BAJA. He replied that he did not know aht a Baja was that he had never heard of it. I then replied that BAJA was the performance division of Fountain and told him that it could run about 120 MPH. He said that he could tell it was one fast boat. He had two cats living on the boat and they were running on the deck and we were simply amazed at all the junk he had on the boat. He was known as the painter because he claimed to be an artist and his boat was a project in progress.
The next year a storm got the best of him and he was blown into shore near the rudder and te boat sank. It was on display at the dealer that sales Regals there on 77 at exit #28 for a while.
Not sure what ever happened to him but he was a strange ird for sure.
Baja the PERFORMANCE division of FOUNTAIN. Who would have guessed that would have come true!

Dang...not funny and really funny at the same time...sound like Darwinism.
BTW...I might have to see the man cave next time I'm down to see my dad. He lives very near the Hwy 16/Hwy 73 intersection.

I think Baja Power's boat and mine might be flying "Cigar" then "by fountain" just like the new logo for laughs. Anyone else in? Might have to have Tommy print some.

I got a little used to it if I worked in the shop for a few weeks or months straight. I remember my first time around it - I went home and rolled on the carpet like a dog!
