Sent (2) 2006 1075 SCi in with 125 hours.
One engine 32K
Second Engine 31K
Extras I chose for both engines 9,500
Retail Total: $72,500
Oem and dealer cost bring the total down, but this is what the retail is.
I just dont understand no matter how many times I read about these rebuilds.
And here I am looking at boats that cost cost less than the "extras" he chose.
Tim, think about this thread next time you are scraping money together and selling mustang parts!:D

I have read the thread, that is a ton of cash, he said that was retail, I am betting he is not paying that, I do however understand why some spend that kind of money on Merc...
J-bonz summed it up with his comment...."Well, It may be high in some eyes but just think................. He will be boating come early spring and not waiting for the engine builder to get around to it! "
I know of quite a few people that have spent more then a season out waiting for a reputable engine builder to get things done, and if I had a 46 Cig that cost me 500,000 used I would not want to spend a season waiting..the Merc 1075 also seems to be a reliable engine, and fuel effient for the power it makes.
I know Jeremy and McConnel went all summer with no issues, like I said, it costs to have a reliable 100+mph boat...
I know as well as anyone else it could be done cheaper, but at what loss?? return time? reliability?
And yes, expensive and WAY out of my league!

Also you get full warranty, I do not know any engine builder giving a "full" warranty.
Make's good to me ,,, take the horsepower ## and then the rebuild cost per engine ,, now compare it to a 454 complete rebuild down to the block boiling and bluprint and fit every part ,, then add in the dick factor and 115mph and tell me what you would do if ya had the cash in your pocket ,,, yep, I might be the same guy !!

To each his own, we all have different hobbies and different budgets. If spending more than the average American's annual salary on a yearly basis makes you happy and you can afford it, they by all means have at it.
While were on the topic of spending large sums on depreciating assets, any of you guys know anybody who is into high end horses? Now those are some numbers that will make you puke! And you cant rebuild a $50k horse after its dead.
Did it for 15 years ,, and 50g is not a high end horse ,, more like 1mill is high end ,, 50 grand just get's you to the show ,, don't mean your gonna win !!!

When I think of reliable, I think of some of the guys that are running around with 800 or 900 hrs on a 454 that hasnt been rebuilt yet.

A BOBTAIL 1075 IS 86,000...NEW
THE REFRESH FROM MERC IS 18,000
I THINK THIS IS WHY THE GUYS AT MERC RACING LURKS THE BOARDS.
LOOK AT ALL THE DEALERS THAT KEPT RAISING THE BULLSHIT FLAG BEFORE HE POOFS THAT THREAD TOO.

THE BEST ONE I HEARD OVER THE WEEKEND WAS THAT THE PERSON THAT SENT HIM THAT BILL MUST HAVE NOT BEEN HAPPY WITH THE 4000 MARKUP THAT MERCURY LETS THE DEALER COLLECT PER ENGINE WITH THE TRUE MSRP.

ILL ASK DAD IF HES EVER SEEN A TRULY "TIRED" V8. IVE YET TO SEE ONE MYSELF. I did see a 330HP with 1700 hours go but that it. It was only 23 years old :) Was pushing a super heavy 25 SR amberjack (10 foot beam) and had to do 3000 RPM just to stay on plane:Bunny1:

My dad has a 454 crusader in his old Sportcraft. No hour meter but he trolls for hrs on end I can only immagine how many hrs he had.
There was a charter captain near us that had a pair of 454's in 30' sportcraft that was supposed to have in the neighborhood of 12,000 hrs when he traded the boat in. THe boats name was Father Flanigan and it was the on charter boat that I never saw at the dock in the morning.

But the expriences you had with your project gave you first hand knowledge of what is actually going on back there. the education of an engine failure, or any failure, is pricless.

If you think boats can get expensive, go spend some time around the hardcore horse people. Takes $$ to a whole new level.
