Not totally. My brother has a few guns and he brought them to the parents for thanksgiving.
Just for shats and grins we shot a couple of them....the guns I mean.
Figured out that a 9mm is a bit much for her. Those things are loud too. It definately was different than I expected.

Tony started me with rifles because there is less of a recoil. Maybe this would be an option for her too?

Start her on small caliber handguns i.e......22 cal.
Handguns buck, even mild mid to smaller sized calibers can snap hard enough to discourage a female, or anyone for that matter. First get her used to the feel of shooting a handgun, then move up in size.
Barrel lenght and weight have a lot to do with it. i.e. my little .38 carry gun when loaded with +P Sabers bucks just as hard as my .44 Mag but the .44 has a barrel roughly 5 times longer and weighs a LOT more than the .38
barrel length+more weight=less recoil. Also = heavier and harder for a woman to shoot offhand.
Been to the range yet??

Not yet. We've both been really busy. Maybe Sunday we will try again.
