My trips to West have always been non eventful in Toledo and Sandusky. For the most part the staff is friendly and helpful (they know what day it is)

What the heck is wrong with the idiots at the Columbus store? I don't have the time now for stories but anyone else have issues there or is it just me?

Ive never had any issues, I usually call to make sure they have what I need in stock before I go.

That place is the absolute worst place to try and buy anything from. I have been there twice and left pissed off both times.

We weren't asking for help. Tony had called and asked if he could return his extra Bilge Kote and they said yes - so we went and got yelled at for returning it there when we bought in Sandusky.

I go there every so often....was there yesterday.

Plusses:
1. It's close.
2. Print out any cheap price from the internet and they will match it.
3. No wait on shipping
4. I once returned a stereo there that I bought from another store for a full refund.
5. Will honor sale flyer prices way before they are valid
6. Good for an emergency purchase.
7. Employees know nothing about boating, so no arguing with you on your purchase selections.

Minuses:
1. Totaly brain dead employees
2. The one kinda decent guy they had (Hans?) seems to be MIA
3. The old bastard is your typical ragbagger idiot
4. Exteremely poor selection
5. Tend to stock ONE item for each SKU, reorder once every other month
6. High as hell on prices, but easily overcome by the print out deal mentioned above.
7. Sale items are rarely shelf marked
8. Way too much ragbag shit in store
9. Same moldy stale inventory has been on the back endcaps for 4 years taking up shelf space that could have been devoted to something that would actually sell.

I will say that Stu, the manager was pretty helpfull with helping my dad pick a plotter, dad told him his price range and not once did try to sell something above it. Since it was a special order item and we live an hour away Stu also offered to bring it to Erie and meet me at my place of choice to deliver it.

Apparently he is a Lyman guy, docks at Lyman Harbor.

Did I mention the old guy is a dick!

Autozone...OMFG...
Since MrsBomar is a firefighter/emt we get a decent discount there.
Some of you may know we have a large assortment of oddball shit in our driveway, most of which will not come up on their confusers.
So, it usually goes something like this for an Autozone order:
I determine what we really need by eiher direct part number or summoning up the demons of a suitable donor vehicle, check other sources for availability and pricing, factor in the discount, and if it all looks good place an internet order for store pickup.
When we go to pickup the shit it's usually the same story.....
We can't find that order.
OK, here, I printed it out.
Uhhh....what's this for?
It doesn't matter, just pull the items.
But what's it for?
OK, look it up and find something it fits, it's for that.
Blank stares.
Go get the stuff.
And off to the cash register we go.
Some things we get a pretty good deal on, others Summit or Jegs blows them away....and there is no rhyme or reason to the pricing.

Autozone, if it isnt listed as a year make and model of vehicle we dont have it!

I went into the local autozone once for a replacement wheel stud for my boat trailer. I knew exactly how it was going to play out, when the kid asks for the vehicle info I spouted off 2001 Loadmaster bring me the dammned assortment Il find it myself.

Good thing about autozone is when you roast 3 new Optimas within a month theyre too stupid to ask questions and always give you a new waranty batterey
:D

They wouldn't give me a warranty on my last battery I bought (for the boat) without giving my car make and model.

Just had a problem with them again last week. I called about an item they had on sale. They had two in stock and they said they would put my name on one of them and put it on a shelf in the back. The wife stops by to pick it up, she asked one of the guys at the counter who asked all the other workers and no remembered talking to me that day. They wouldn't check on the shelf in the back.

Wife got pissed, went to her truck and called me to see who I talked to, but I wasn't available. She went back in the store and asked again and the same results. She decided to look around the store and found the item on the shelf. She took the 40lb item to counter to pay for it and leave. They rung up the item and completed the transaction, she asked if they wanted our telephone number for the West Marine points program. They were not happy when she asked and I'm sure she was not very polite by this time. They did carry the item out to her truck.

This is not the first time they have been rude to her and it will cost me dearly the next time I ask her to stop and pick something up.

I agree with the statements above:
Very unfriendly
Have one item of each in stock. Even packages of wire connectors. Heaven forbid if you have a twin engine boat and want two of something.
Had a worker named Hans who was very friendly.
Don't go in near closing time.

I only get something from there if it is on sale, I don't have to pay shipping and if the wife will pick it up.:D

Speaking of stereos, the cd player in mine shit the bed and keeps kicking out cd's. Is there a way to fix these things? Do they need a new needle or can I just put a penny on the arm if I can find it? Im gonna have to dig out my cassettes pretty soon.
