What does it take to get your CCW or whatever the h$ll ist called to carry a firearm???

Just curious what was involved. If its a p.i.t.a., expensive, time consuming, etc.

Find a local gun range or shop who offers the classes. I forget exactly how many hours of class time it takes, classes are generally offered on weeknights. Dont let any of the places bullchit you, the only real course needed is NRA basic pistol training.

Anyway, its X hours of classtime +a little bit of range time for qualifying.

After that is all completed you have to pick up an application for a permit at your county sherriffs office, fill it out, they take your finger prints, then give them your course completion certificate and a $200 check for the FBI background check, then wait for them to call you to tell you that your permit is ready.

Its not a huge pain in the arse considering that you are actually going thru a process to legally carry a firearm in public. If you have reason to belive that your life is in immediate danger you can get an emergency temporary carry permit at the Sherrif's Office.

I highly advise spending some time at the range and renting several different pistols and becoming fluent with them before taking the course. You can come here sometime and I will show you the basics and let you shoot a few different pistols if you want.

Buy yourself an HK P-7 and I will show you how to use it. :D j/k
