Scientists Discover Kelleys Island Formed from a Volcano

Has anyone been following this story? Apparently they have kept the story quiet for years, but they are warning of volcanic activity, possibly as early as 2009! The volcano has been dormant for thousands of years, but after a slight earthquake that went undetected, the tectonic plates near the island shifted. They believe the magma to be around 50 miles below the islands surface, and have detected volcanic gas about 1/4 of a mile off the east side of the island underwater. Scientists believe there wont be an eruption, but expect a large lava flow along the eastern shores of the island. They are now studying the glacial grooves on the north side to put together a real timeline and history of the island.

Post what you know about this, I havent heard much. Im sure RHC remembers when the island was formed?:D

The Lava flow can be regulated by the force of the tectonic plates putting pressure on it foring equalibrium. There is a very stable condition in this region and activity is not predicted for quite some time.
